Ed Charles, renowned Major League baseball third baseman, member of the Kansas City Athletics and the “Miracle Mets”, passed away at his home in East Elmhurst on March 15 at the age of 84. Mr. Charles was a long-standing supporter of Queens Centers For Progress, making it a point to attend our annual galas, and often donated his baseball memorabilia to help raise funds for the agency. Mr. Charles was real fan of QCP’s Adult Center, often stopping by to sign Mets items. He always appreciated how much our individuals knew about his team. Mr. Charles made a habit of community service, including work with at-risk youths at group homes in the Bronx. Thank you, Mr. Charles. We honor your memory.
