Queens Centers for Progress (QCP) Executive Director, Terri Ross, and Residential Supervisor, Lea Folly-Gah were wowed by the surprise appearance of Grammy-winner, and Tony nominated Broadway Actor, Christopher Jackson, of “Hamilton” and “In the Heights” fame.
The QCP exec and staff member were featured guests on the new web TV show, “Stars in the House,” on Friday, April 24, in a live streaming at 2:00 PM. The series is streamed live on YouTube, and https://www.starsinthehouse.com/.
The QCP guests were thrilled when Jackson performed a moving rendition of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend” which brought all who were watching to tears.
Ms.Folly‑Gay is in quarantine with three staff members and nine residents with developmental disabilities at a QCP group home. QCP’s residential services staff have been working non-stop, 24/7, since mid-March, to support the nearly one-hundred residents in nine homes that QCP operates. QCP’s appearance on the show highlighted how the pandemic has affected every member of society.
Hosts Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley are hosting the twice-daily, live-streamed show to help support the Actors Fund during the time that the pandemic has closed all performing arts venues. The show features live interviews with Broadway performers. Guests have included Rosie O’Donnell, Billy Porter, and Chita Rivera. The format is an informal interview chat, and provides an opportunity for performers to stay connected with their public and peers.
QCP is a non-profit based in Queens, NY, that serves 1200 people with developmental disabilities. The pandemic has shut all operations, and has confined the 73 individuals who require continual care in the group homes that QCP operates. The agency has spent more than $100,000 obtaining vital PPE.
