PS200 Queens Students Visit Their Skype Pals At QCP Pre-School

Forty second-grade students at the PS200 Magnet School Of Global Studies visited the QCP Apple Pre-School at 82-25 164 Street in Jamaica on January 23

The PS200 students had been “Skyping” with some of the Apple School staff and students since last year. Nancy Glass, Director of Children’s Services said, “I received a call from one of the PS200 teachers, who knew of us, asking for this collaboration.” The children first met each other via video chats where they introduced each other and sang songs to each other via a “smart board.”

This was the first time the PS200 students and Apple preschoolers met face-to-face. During the visit, the children from PS 200 came with arts and craft materials and made pop-up cards with the children. They shared stories, helped each other, sang songs and enjoyed meeting new friends. Fun was had by all!

According to Glass, “The program brings together children of different ages, and different ability levels. The older children enjoy helping the preschoolers, and the younger children are excited to interact with the second-graders.”
