Queens Distance Runners To Host Race To Benefit QCP

Jamaica, NY – December 5, 2018
There will be lots of smiling children at the Queens Centers For Progres (QCP) Children’s Center this holiday season, thanks to the efforts of the Queens Distance Runners. The Queens-based running club is sponsoring its sixth annual “5-Mile Run and Toy Drive” on December 16. The event helps to raise funds for QCP and collect toys for the QCP Children’s Center.

Nancy Glass, Director of the QCP Children’s Center, commented “Many of our students will have very happy holidays, thanks to the Queens Distance Runners 5-Miler Toy Drive. This wonderful group of athletes will once again collect toys for our preschoolers with special needs; bringing much cheer to the children and their families.’

Wendy Phaff, QCP Director of Development, echoed the sentiment: “The running community proves time and time again how generous they can be by coming out for the sixth year in a row to support this 5-mile race, and to donate toys for QCP’s children and families that QCP serves.”

The 5-Mile Race starts at 8:30AM until 11:30AM, and covers a perimeter of Flushing Meadows Park. Participants donating toys should deliver them unwrapped. A portion of the race proceeds will go to support QCP programs.

Kevin Montalvo, is the founder of Queens Distance Runners, and commented on how his organization formed its mission: “In 2013 the Queens Distance Runners was created on the premise that the Queens Running Community was in need of a boost. In addition to fostering what is now one of the Largest Running Clubs in the New York City Area, it was essential that our Organization establish Relationships with Local Non Profit Organizations that seek to improve the lives of residents in our communities.”
