Footsteps for Progress Walk Makes Great
Strides Raising $32,000 for QCP Participants

Queens Centers for Progress held its Annual Footsteps for Progress Walk on April 16 where over 200 friends — old and new — put on their walking shoes and set out for a 5-mile route that began at the QCP Center (81-15 164th Street in Jamaica), headed to Kissena Park, and then back to QCP. The event ended with a lavish brunch and raised over $32,000 for QCP, which is the largest amount ever raised in the Walk’s 37-year history.

Footsteps for Progress is a long standing community walk where staff, program participants and their families, local high schools and the community come together to learn about QCP and promote inclusion and acceptance of people with disabilities.

This year, QCP was pleased to welcome back two great supporters of Footsteps for Progress Walk — New York State Senator Tony Avella, who for the fourth consecutive year, was the event’s Grand Marshal; and Queens Park Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, who has helped QCP kick off the Walk for 15 years. Another staple in the walk for 25 years has been Fran Schoenbrot, a past program participant who loved the time she spent at QCP so much that she returns to show her support each year, even though she and her husband now live in Long Island.

“The Walk is always a great way to spend time with our friends and neighbors who help QCP promote independence of individuals with developmental disabilities,” said Maryann McAleer, Director of Development at Queens Centers for Progress.
