Evening of Fine Food Mixes Feast, Fun & Friends

Over 300 guests joined Queens Centers for Progress for another successful event featuring gourmet food, wine and casino fun at its annual Evening of Fine Food on February 23 at Terrace on the Park, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. An elaborate Silent Auction also spiced up the event, which offered many wonderful items and delicious gift baskets.

The event was a celebration of QCP and its extraordinary programs and services and hundreds of guests came to show their support. The event also honored three exemplary community members as “Chefs of the Year.” Hon. Audrey Pheffer, Queens County Clerk, who has successfully instituted many new programs and initiatives that have technologically advanced and improved public access to records and information since her appointment in 2011; and NYC’s finest — Diana Pizzuti, Assistant Chief Commanding Officer of Queens North NYPD and David Barrere, Assistant Chief Commanding Officer of Queens South NYPD competed in a fun cook-off. Chief Pizzuti was declared the winner. The evening also welcomed Celebrity Guest Chef Jesse, 12, from MasterChef Junior Season 4; and Lisa Mateo, Anchor at PIX-11 News and Host of Celebrity Taste Makers.

All proceeds from the Evening of Fine Food benefit QCP’s programs and services, which serve over 1,200 children and adults with developmental disabilities.

The evening also welcomed former Evening of Fine Food honorees, which spiced up the night. QCP welcomed back 2013 Chef of the Year Veronica Tsang, Senior Vice President, Branch Administration Eastern Regions at Cathay Bank, who brought luscious chocolate delicacies; and 2012 Chef of the Year Linda DeSabato, President of Vallo Transportation, who served her delectable meatballs. Also, back by popular demand was Frank Macchio, who prepared his special Italian treats; as well as TD Bank’s Signature Yes-tini.

QCP’s Executive Director, Charlie Houston, commented, “QCP is grateful to all our friends and supporters who came to our Evening of Fine Food event. As we celebrate our 66th year, QCP could not welcome any better friends and family to join us around our table.”
