Queens Centers for Progress held our Annual Gala and 65th Anniversary Kick Off Celebration at Terrace on the Park on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. This year’s gala took on a 1950s “Rock Around the Clock” theme that dazzled guests with a live band, dinner, dancing and the introduction to QCP’s new logo.

The gala welcomed 250 guests, who enjoyed an open bar, a sumptuous dinner buffet, and live music by local band, Risky Business.

Charles Houston, Executive Director of QCP, said, “At QCP, our galas are always an important event for us, but this year’s was extra special. We kicked off our 65th anniversary celebration!” He added, “I am glad everyone came out to support this agency in its mission to provide top quality care.”

QCP took time to pay tribute to three honorary people who support QCP in its mission to provide top quality care. Those honored were: longtime supporter of the agency Kam Wong, President and CEO of Municipal Credit Union, who received the 2014 Man of the Year Award; Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, who was presented with the 2014 Governmental Leadership Award; and Michael J. Landi, President of the Transit Managerial Benevolent Association, who received the 2014 Humanitarian of the Year Award.

Speaking about the value of QCP, Katz commented, “One of the great things about QCP is its commitment to making sure that the developmentally disabled population is able to live independently, and freely, and to get around the city of New York.”
