QCP’s Giving Garden had the help of special guests last month to get it ready for the summer season. Individuals from Transitional Services for New York, came to help clean out the 11 raised beds, walkways, and seating area. Together with the individuals from QCP’s Day Services Program they tilled the soil, raked out the beds and planted peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, and a variety of herbs for the Giving Garden’s Fourth Season.
TSINY was invited by QCP to help get the Garden Going and Growing! In addition to being therapeutic, it also supports and fosters inclusion and fits the mission of the Garden as a collaborative project between QCP and others in the community.
Executive Director, Terri Ross, said, “The Garden is a beautiful oasis on our Bellerose Campus. It is an honor to share this project with individuals from TSINY and witness the plants and friendships grow! We are delighted to partner with them.”
The Giving Garden was created as a labor of love by the New York Restoration Project together with The Home Depot, Scotts Lawn Care, and Bonnie Plants who continue to donate the soil and plants necessary for the garden to flourish!
Vegetables are harvested and used by QCP’s residents, and the surplus is donated to local food pantries.
