Approximately 300 people attend
the WorkSource Center, which offers the opportunity
to learn both the job skills and the social
skills to succeed in the work world. Our goal
is to enhance self-confidence and independence
while preparing for employment.
Part of our program includes a contract packaging
and assembly shop in QCP’s main building, where
participants learn to perform work from simple,
one-step tasks to multi-step assembly and sophisticated,
high-volume automated packaging operations.
The work they do is for actual metro-area businesses.
The participants are paid for their work according
to U.S. Dept. of Labor regulations Each program
offers realistic challenges for individuals
as they prepare for work in the community.
Our vocational training division also offers
training in food service, shipping/receiving
and porter-maintenance.
We also serve a number of people who are hearing
or visually impaired. Training is provided by
staff knowledgeable in American Sign Language,
and adapted services are available for individuals
with limited vision. We still make every effort
to help these people integrate into the working
community.

Through the years WorkSource’s
Employment Service has placed hundreds of people
into jobs out in the community. The agency’s
commitment continues with ongoing support services
and group activities to help the individuals
meet the changing demands of the workplace.
On-the-job learning provides a realistic opportunity
to learn positive work behaviors and specific
work skills.
QCP’s Work Source offers three community-based
work options:
• Ready to Work: for those
who are ready to work full-time, without supports,
after a period of training in our facility.
Our graduates are hired directly by local firms
and work successfully in settings such as department
stores, supermarkets, restaurants and offices.
• Individual Supported
Work Placements: designed for those
who need intensive training and support on the
job site for a limited time, the WorkSource
Employment Service’s training specialists provide
on-the-job training, then offer ongoing support
for as long as needed.
• The Supported Work
Program: Under this program, QCP staffers
provide ongoing supervision and support on the
job site for enclaves, or small groups of individuals,
who are ready to work in the community. This
can also lead to individual placements.
