2005 NYS
CP Conference
The 2005 Cerebral Palsy Associations of New
York State’s Annual Conference was held on October
24-26, 2005 at The Desmond Hotel & Conference
Center in Albany this year.
Queens Centers for Progress was honored to have
Al Steiger of Stop & Shop win the Employer of the
Year Award. Stop & Shop has made a commitment to
provide employment opportunities to individuals
with disabilities and have made the accommodations
necessary for access to jobs. Stop & Shop employs
55 consumers at five of their locations. Al
Steiger is the manager at the Five Towns store
where four of our consumers are currently
employed. He treats our consumers as he would any
other employee....with dignity and respect and he
expects nothing less from others. He attempts to
place the workers in job assignments that they can
flourish in. This is a win-win situation as the
store benefits from productive workers and the
employees feel like successful members of the
community. Al truly deserved this recognition.
Queens Centers for Progress was also proud to
recognize the following staff at the conference:

or being professional and patient when faced with
significant behavioral issues, Jasmine always
maintains her composure and has shown she can turn
an outburst into a smile.
Andrea Quintela-Rivera, Program Coordinator
at The QCP Bellerose Day Program Andrea has been an
outstanding employee for QCP’s Day Program for 16
years. With enthusiasm, patience and compassion,
she encourages staff to understand the importance
of the consumers’ choices and ensures that program
plans are integrated with the consumers’ daily
routines. She works to empower and motivate
individuals and families to work toward
constructive goals as well as greater
independence. With her Masters Degree in
Administration, Andrea is admired and respected as
a dedicated employee truly deserving of
recognition.
