Queens Centers for Progress was honored to
receive two awards from the Borough President's
Office on October, 19, 2004. The Advisory Council
honors individuals with disabilities who have made
exceptional achievements in athletics, education
and employment; as well as individuals without
disabilities who have made an outstanding
contribution to enhance the lives of persons with
disabilities.
Kestor Mahase was selected by the Advisory
Council for Persons with Disabilities to receive a
Declaration of Honor at its Eleventh Annual Awards
Ceremony. Mr. Mahase is a participant in our
Supported Work Program, WorkSource, and is
currently working at The Home Depot. He was
nominated for the Vocational Achievement Award.
Jeff Greenberg, manager at the 48th
Street, Long Island City Shop & Stop, was the
recipient of the award in the category, "Business
that actively trains and employs persons with
disabilities." Jeff realizes that work is just one
aspect of who a person is, so he accommodates
flexible scheduling to allow people to take care
of other needs and desires while still meeting
their work responsibilities. He is always willing
to listen before reacting to a situation and thus
has been able to deal with many of the things that
happen on a job to prevent them from becoming
problems.
Congratulations to both winners. We are very
happy to have them as part of the QCP family.
